HEAVY downpours could cause disruption in Inverclyde this weekend, with the Met Office issuing a 27-hour weather warning for the area.

The yellow alert for rain will come into force at 6pm on Sunday, remaining in place until 9pm on Monday.

Forecasters say persistent and heavy rainfall could cause problems for those travelling on the roads and railways, and that some communities may become cut off by flooded roads.

The warning covers Inverclyde, as well as much of north-west Scotland.
