INVERCLYDE'S flagship theatre and arts centre is bringing more movement and mindfulness into people's lives in the morning.

Contemporary dancer and choreographer Shona Miller is launching a new class at the Beacon in Greenock to begin the day.

It is followed by her other hugely successful creative dance class Platinum which helps keep over 55s on the move.

People already taking part in 'Mindful Movement' are getting inspiration from various forms of dance, including ballet.

Shona said: "Our new Mindful Movement class is a perfect way to start your Monday morning.

"Drawing inspiration from pilates, yoga and dance, this class will focus on moving the body with intention, breath work and gentle stretching.

"This class is suitable for all abilities and can be performed seated or standing."

Shona runs a number of fantastic projects including Platinum Dance which gives the over 55s the chance to dance.

Leading Beacon dance teacher Shona also leads the Parkinson's for Dance which gives people affected by the illness the chance to get on to the dance floor.

As well as the Beacon, Shona also works out the of the Alzheimer's Scotland Dementia Resource Centre on Nicol Street.

The arts centre's creative engagement officer Kevin Jannetts is over the moon at the collection of creative activities on offer.

Kevin said: "This is a brilliant class and will give people the opportunity to enjoy two hours of dance on a Monday if they choose to do so.

"It is so important to offer creative opportunities for adults. We have a number of classes with our Parkinson's for Dance and our Inverclyde Women Creatives is also starting back up again.

"We want to make the Beacon inclusive for all."

The new class runs every Monday from 10am, costs £5 and can be paid at the box office.
