POLICE have launched an appeal after a boat was deliberately set on fire in Port Glasgow.
The incident took place last night (February 21) at around 8.30pm at the boat yard near Queen Street and resulted in two boats and a fence being damaged.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze without anyone being injured, however the blaze inflicted ‘considerable damage’.
Police say that they are keen to speak to a person wearing dark clothing who was seen near the scene at the time of the incident.
Detective Constable Laura Sokolov said: “Fortunately no one was injured but considerable damage was caused and the fire is being treated as wilful.
“Enquiries so far have established that a person wearing dark clothing was seen at the time and we are keen to speak to them and anyone else with information that could help with our investigation.
“We would also like to speak to anyone with private CCTV or dash-cam footage that could assist us.”
Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3476 of Wednesday, 21 February, 2024, or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
