A FLAT within Port Glasgow's eyesore Clune Park estate has been listed for auction and is likely to be the cheapest home in Scotland.

The one-bedroom property on Robert Street is set to go under the hammer with a guide price of just £1,000.

According to the Future Property Auctions listing, the ground floor flat is among the last traditional red sandstone tenement flats available in the run-down area - dubbed 'Scotland's Chernobyl'.

If it were to be bought at £1,000 with a 25-year mortgage after a ten per cent deposit, the repayments on the loan would be £5.39 a month.

The flat comes with a living room, kitchen, bathroom and a CCTV security system installed with cameras inside and throughout the building.

Six buildings are currently subject to active demolition orders within the estate, which has largely been abandoned since the turn of the century having been built in the early 1900s to house families of shipyard workers.

Forty-five four storey tenement buildings, with 430 flats, were previously inhabited but anti-social behaviour, frequent fire-raising incidents and vandalism have blighted the once-bustling site in recent decades.

A partially-demolished B-listed former primary school remains, along with a church building and resource centre, with multi-million-pound plans in place to redevelop the area in the coming years.

The sales notice for the Robert Street flat states: "We understand that this property lies within the Clune Park regeneration plan and purchasers are advised to satisfy themselves as to any ongoing progress with the plans via Inverclyde Council."

The £31 million scheme, approved in November, includes the construction of 135 new homes in a mixture of flats, cottage flats and houses.

Several of the remaining properties are still in the hands of private owners and two other flats - with guide prices of £11,500 and £12,000 - are also up for auction elsewhere on Robert Street, and on Clune Park Street.

One of those, featured in the Telegraph last week, is said to be 'uninhabitable' and requires new windows and a full refurbishment.

Bidding will open at £1,000 for the cheaper Robert Street flat and buyers are required to put down a 10 per cent deposit.

The online auction will take place between 10am and 3pm on March 7.
