Gourock mum and daughter take on the Race for Life

Tesco Greenock community champion Lorella Sutherland is stepping up to give Glasgow Race for Life a go alongside her ten-year-old girl Leah.

The duo are in training hard as they try to raise as much money as possible to support Cancer Research UK

Lorella, who has taken part in the Race for Life before, has helped raise thousands of pounds for local causes over the years.

Now daughter Leah is also involved and has even organised her own fundraiser in Tesco as they get closer to the starting line.

Mum-of-two Lorella, 45, said: "It's lovely to be doing this with Leah. She is so excited and it means such a lot that she wants to be involved. We all know someone affected by cancer and it affects every family.

"We want to be able to do something to support the cause.

"We are really grateful for all the support from Tesco as well."

In her role in the Greenock store Lorella has raised money for Cancer Research UK as well as supported good causes such as Inverclyde Foodbank and Barnardo's.

Every year Lorella runs a Christmas gift appeal, with customers and staff using a giving tree to donate presents.

She has also supported the Inverclyde Homeless Forum and care homes across Inverclyde.

Now Leah, who is in P6 at Moorfoot has roped in her friends to help as they make bracelets to sell in Tesco at an upcoming fundraiser.

Leah said: "I'm excited about Race for Life, it is so important. My papa's mum died from cancer. I want to help."

Her great-gran Jenny Henderson died two years ago aged 91, and the duo are taking part in her memory, and for all those who have lost someone.

Leah and her friends will be selling clay bead jewellery in support of the Beatson on Saturday, March 9.

There will also be a raffle on the day with a chance to win some goodies including a Mother's Day hamper and Tesco gift voucher.
