ALBA Party general secretary Chris McEleny has called on the Scottish Government to step in and save 450 local jobs by utilising the EE Greenock call centre.
BT Group announced plans last month to close it down and move staff to Glasgow.
But Mr McEleny says ministers could take control of the building and convert it into a West of Scotland Scottish Government Hub.
He said: “It’s easy to ask the Scottish Government to have their agencies see what support can be offered to find other opportunities in the private sector.
"But it’s time for the Scottish Government to play its part in keeping jobs in Inverclyde and creating new opportunities in Inverclyde.
“If the decision to close the EE call centre does proceed then the Scottish Government should step in, turn the centre into a West of Scotland hub and offer EE staff the opportunity to work for the Scottish Government whether in many of the Social Security Scotland jobs still to be filled or by future proofing all our other services with their growing need for call centre and digital resilience."
