A GREENOCK audiologist is urging people to take regular tests to protect their hearing.

Christopher Lyall, partner at Greenock Specsavers audiology, shared some top tips to mark World Hearing Day which took place earlier this week.

He said: “It’s highly important that we monitor our hearing, as hearing loss can be incredibly detrimental to the mental health of those it’s effecting.

“It can make communication very difficult and can even affect your balance if not properly taken care of.

“Often, one of the most tell-tale signs for hearing concerns begins with something simple such as the TV getting louder, conversations seeming mumbled or when background noise gets overwhelming.”

Christopher says ‘improper’ use of cotton buds can potentially push wax deeper into the ear canal, compacting it and making hearing more challenging.

He added: “Hearing loss is experienced by millions of people in the UK and affects people of all ages. Everyone's hearing is unique.

“That's why we carry out comprehensive hearing tests to better understand each person’s individual hearing profile."
