PEOPLE in Inverkip who like to lunch will not have to fork out for a feed thanks to a new pilot project at its community hub.

The hub is hosting a free community meal every week and it has quickly attracted people of all ages from different walks of life.

Members of local groups who meet in the centre as well as residents in the village have been coming along and tucking into soup, sandwiches and sausage rolls.

Kevin Rodgers, centre manager, says the new venture is proving a great success and helps showcase what is on offer at the facility.

He said: "We have had two community lunches so far and we had nearly 100 people over the two days.

"We invited all our groups along, and the local community. The idea was to have a mix of age groups and community members to chat ,socialise and encourage people to meet the hub groups and maybe come along and join one.

"Lynsey Ritchie Holistics also came along offering a free shoulder massage and health and wellbeing advice as well."

The community lunch drop-in is being funded by Greater Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Local Action Group with the food supplied by Gourock Bakers.

The pilot will run every week until the end of March and is aimed at boosting positive health and wellbeing.

Archie Carmichael, 70, a member of Blooming Inverkip, said: "It's a great idea, lots of different groups use the hub, so it's a chance to meet them and perhaps get a few more volunteers."

Jeanette Good, 62, added: "I've not long moved to Inverkip and I think the centre is a great facility, with people playing football outside and the library too."

The pilot is running until the end of March in a bid to boost health and wellbeing.

Ward councillor Paul Cassidy dropped in for lunch and backed the idea. He hopes it can be continued if further funding is secured.

He said: "The free lunch will run during March and it's a pilot following on from the Warm Hand of Friendship scheme.

"The hub is a good environment to bring the community together, young and old."

The next lunch will be held on Friday March 15.
