A DIVER has been rushed to hospital for treatment after an emergency alert was raised earlier today.
The coastguard were alerted to a diver who had got into difficulty in the water off Wemyss Bay at around 10.10am.
The Greenock Coastguard Rescue Team and the RNLI's inshore lifeboat from Largs were dispatched to recover the stricken diver.
The person was brought to dry land by the dive dinghy and handed safely into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
Emergency services, including police, converged on Inverkip Marina as the man was loaded onto an ambulance.
He has now been taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "A diver was recovered after getting into difficulty in the water off Wemyss Bay on 7 March.
"The alarm was raised with HM Coastguard at about 10.10am.
"Greenock Coastguard Rescue Team was sent as well as the RNLI's inshore lifeboat from Largs.
"The person was brought to dry land by the dive dinghy and handed safely into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. Police Scotland was alerted."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.10am on Thursday 7 March emergency services attended at Inverkip Marina after reports of concern for a diver.
"He has been taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.”
