MP Ronnie Cowan says he will explore every avenue to convince EE to reverse their decision to move 450 jobs out of Inverclyde.

The leading local SNP politician was involved in a meeting with Scottish Government ministers to look at putting a financial package in place to persuade bosses BT Group not to move their call centre to Glasgow.

He also says that there are concerns from the local workforce about the consultation process that he is also looking at.

Mr Cowan said: "I have met with BT Group and continue to engage with them about EE in Greenock.

"I laid out many reasons why I think their decision is absolutely wrong, including their treatment of a workforce which has been hugely beneficial to them through its commitment and professionalism over many years.

"I have now raised additional questions which have been flagged by workers.

"This decision will have hugely damaging effects on other businesses and the local economy as a whole."

Following the meeting it was announced that the Inverclyde Taskforce will set up a subgroup to explore options on the table, including a possible financial package.

Mr Cowan said: "EE has said repeatedly that this is about them consolidating their business, and they have not indicated that this is about them seeking any government money.

"I will continue to tell EE bosses that their stance is the wrong one, and I will continue to raise all and every measure aimed at reversing the decisions made as part of this unjustifiable consultation exercise."
