DRIVERS are being warned of a road closure in Greenock when Amey undertakes essential maintenance on the A8 for four days later this month.

They will be upgrading the eastbound stretch between Cartsdyke and Pottery Street on the main road, starting from Monday March 25.

The work will run overnight from the hours of 8pm-6am, continuing until Thursday March 28.

During the overnight works Sinclair Street will be shut at Carwood Street, with no access to East Hamilton Street, and local traffic will be diverted via Carwood Street and Ratho Street, or Weir Street and Gibshill Road.

Amey bosses say that the scheme will benefit around 36,000 vehicles using the route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

The works will be carried out using signal-controlled lane closures over the three nights.

There will also be daytime lane closures between 6am and 8pm on Tuesday March 26, 'to facilitate the cooling of deeper sections of treatment'.

Traffic management is due to be removed by 6am on March 28.
