A LABOUR politician is bringing a public consultation event on sexism and misogyny to a Greenock venue.

West Scotland MSP Katy Clark will host a discussion on the themes and their impact on young people at an event at the Beacon Arts Centre on March 25.

Ms Clark says sexism and misogyny in Scotland’s schools is a 'serious problem which requires a serious strategy'.

The MSP, who is Scottish Labour's spokesperson for community safety, has highlighted data which shows nearly two thirds of girls in Scottish secondary schools have experienced verbal and visual harassment.

Ms Clark is calling for the Scottish Government to introduce a 'comprehensive cross-campus strategy to educate and tackle sexism, misogyny and sexual harassment in all education settings'.

She added: "A lack of understanding remains about the extent and nature of violence, harassment and abuse faced by girls in schools.

"I am keen to hear from members of the public about what more can be done to tackle this problem locally and nationally."

The event will begin at 4pm.
