GREENOCK’S new Greggs drive-through welcomed scores of hungry locals as it opened its doors for the first time today.

The new £1.5m outlet is the biggest Greggs drive-through in Scotland and employs two dozen local people.

Graeme Millar, from Edinburgh, became the store’s first ever sit-in customer as he collected his order of a latte, a bacon roll and a bottle of water.

He said: “I was just through here for the morning and saw it was open.

“I happened to pop in and I didn’t expect all this.

“It’s nice to see disused sites come into use and be developed."

As well as offering drive-through and sit-in ordering, the shop is also hoping to start accepting delivery orders within the next few weeks.

Shop manager Andy McDonagh told the Tele earlier this week that he was pleased to see the bakery chain doing its part to create local jobs, with the majority of its staff being from Greenock or Port Glasgow

Greenock resident Elise Cooper, who been working in Greggs for two and a half years, is one of the new team members.

She added: “Greggs is probably the best place I’ve worked, I really thoroughly enjoy it.  

“It’s exciting to have a drive-through and have something different added in.

“It’s going to be very busy I think.

“We’ve already had loads of customers coming through and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”
