A KILMACOLM school has unveiled ‘exciting’ plans to open a new state-of-the-art facility for its youngest pupils.

St Columba’s School plans to open the doors to its junior school on Gryffe Road in August 2025.

The plans involve relocating the existing junior department to converted classrooms in the Girdwood Building.

Senior pupils will also benefit from investment in new classrooms in the main building, which ahs been in use since 1897.

A new gymnasium will prove PR facilities at Duchal Road for all children, with the school also retaining its games hall at Knockbuckle Road and AstroTurf pitch on Gryffe Road.

Part of the school's Knockbuckle Road site will be sold under the plans.

Neighbours of the school are being assured by the school that development plans will be ‘sensitive’ and shared with them at the earliest opportunity.

St Columba’s rector Victoria Reilly said: “The school has evolved considerably over the years and this latest consolidation will future-proof the school for generations to come while maintaining one of Scotland’s top independent schools in Inverclyde – a community the school enjoys playing its role in serving."
