A LONG running cycling club in Inverclyde has used pedal power to raise vital funds to help children living in poverty.

Inverclyde Velo stepped up to donate cash thanks to the support from its 40 members.

They used club funds to dig deep for Children in Poverty Inverclyde, which sends hundreds of struggling families on holiday every year.

Velo club member Gavin Morrison said: "I have close links with the charity from work I have done over the years and I recommended them to the club.

"Children in Poverty Inverclyde really do fantastic work locally and we are glad that we can step in to help."

Velo chairman George McCarter and the team including Derek Robinson and Paul Symington work hard to keep the club on the road.

George added: "We always like to support local charities, so we are delighted to help Children in Poverty Inverclyde."

Inverclyde Velo have been going strong for over 40 years, producing Scottish champions, and they have cycles every weekend.

CIPI founder Pat Burke was on hand to accept the £150 donation.

He said: "We are delighted that Inverclyde Velo have thought of our charity. We rely on kind donations from local groups. I hope we can work closely with them in the future."
