A PROPOSAL to repaint an iconic Greenock landmark has been lodged with Inverclyde Council.

Permission is being sought to put a new coat of paint on the Customhouse Quay clock tower, which is currently undergoing a £110,000 makeover.

Work to restore the B-listed 19th century structure's pedestal, column clock, bell, light and finial is currently in progress, with approval now requested for painting treatments.

If the plans are approved the base of the clock tower will be painted a darker shade of blue and its column and lantern will be shaded 'antique white', with the upper band of the column to be coloured a dark blue as well.

The detailing on the clock tower, which is currently blue, will be painted gold instead.

The application is currently being considered by planners.
