PART of West Blackhall Street has re-opened following the first phase of a £3.2m regeneration project.
The section of the road between Westburn Street and Nicolson Street had been shut since January after work to make the high street more attractive and accessible got underway.
The pavement on either side the street has been replaced with new brickwork which it is hoped will improve the look of the area.
Bench seating has also been installed.
The project is also designed to ‘future proof’ the area so that it will be compatible with more sustainable forms of transport and zero-carbon targets, with a shift in focus towards pedestrian priority.
It is being funded by Inverclyde Council and active travel organisation Sustrans Scotland through their Places for Everyone scheme, with a contribution from Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT).
The project will see the street opened up with the existing roads layout replaced with a single one-way system straight through from Westburn Street to Grey Place, and parking down one side of the street only.
Work is expected to last through until autumn 2024.
