YOUNGSTERS are getting the chance to explore the great outdoors in Greenock thanks to an exciting grassroots project.
Belville Community Gardens are stepping up their Dinky Diggers programme, which gives little ones the chance to have fun and learn.
At a recent play session King's Oak Nursery children were out in force in the garden letting their imaginations run wild.
They went on a bug hunt, played outdoor chalk games and even got the chance to toast marshmallows in a camp fire.
Project leader and environmental officer Don Thomas said: "It is great to see everyone here having so fun and getting the chance to play in the outdoors.
"We love welcoming the youngsters to Belville."
Families are welcome to stay and play at the gardens, with nurseries also welcome to come for a visit.
Dinky Diggers is now in demand across Inverclyde with the garden team going into nurseries and schools across the area.
King's Oak early learning education officer Sarah McAlister said: "The children have loved it here. It is great to get back out here to enjoy out doors after missing it through lockdown.
"The kids love being outside and playing and there is so much for them to do at Belville."
Dinky Diggers runs monthly as an outdoor stay and play drop-in for pre-school age kids.
Families are encouraged to come along, wear their wellies, wrap up and spend some quality time together in the fresh air.
They will get a chance to take part in group games, bug hunts, loose parts play and experience the great outdoors.
