GREENOCK will be amongst the first communities in Scotland to host a net zero roadshow later this month aimed at answering householders' questions about energy efficiency.

The showcase, hosted by Scottish Gas, will take place at Greenock Wanderers Rugby Football Club between 10am and 4pm next Sunday, April 14.

Through the utility firm's partnership with Scottish Rugby Union, more than 130 clubs are set to benefit from £2 million of support to help give them a lift with energy bills and reduce energy consumption.

Inverclyde MP Ronnie Cowan has welcomed the announcement of the upcoming event and said: “Recently, I held an energy support cost of living event in my constituency office where we assisted 160 people with their energy bills.

“The Scottish Government is currently consulting on an ambitious Heat in Buildings Bill that will provide a pathway to replacing polluting heating systems in Scotland’s homes and buildings by 2045.

“There are a range of clean heating systems that could get our buildings to net zero – including heat networks, heat pumps and in some cases in the future, heat from hydrogen.

"Homeowners will have big choices to make in the years ahead – which is why the Scottish Gas roadshow in Greenock is a great opportunity to see and hear about the latest technologies.”

Scottish Gas net zero director, Prof Steve Petrie, said: “We’re really looking forward to the Greenock roadshow and answering questions about how people can reduce their household carbon footprint, become more energy efficient and cut their costs.

"We know that households have lots of questions about the low carbon heating technologies, such as heat pumps, so we will have our energy experts on hand to help.

“We’ll also be on hand to offer advice on sources of support – including the Scottish Government’s grant programmes – as well as practical insights and advice on how to be more energy efficient, reduce carbon emissions and ultimately, save money.”
