TALENTED youngsters from across Inverclyde excelled recently as they took part in Riverside Youth Band’s annual solo festival.

The event, which was held at Port Glasgow Salvation Army, saw 22 members of the group perform pieces in front of their proud parents and supporters.

Adjudicator Gareth Bowman, formerly of Clydeview Academy, offered valuable feedback to the performers.

Principal cornetist Ash Paton won the senior solo, with Andrea Crumlish finishing second and Lillie McCluskie taking third place.

Sienna Harrison won the junior solo section, with Becca Stewart taking second place and Cameron Mitchell finishing third.

Mark Good, musical director of Riverside Youth Band, said: “I'm bursting with pride at all our young members, who performed with distinction in our annual solo festival.

Greenock Telegraph:

“Putting yourself out there to perform a solo takes confidence, resilience and perseverance - skills which will be invaluable to these youngsters as they transfer them to other areas of their lives.

"They all supported each other, listening to their performances and offering high-fives and hugs aplenty. They're a credit to their families, and to Inverclyde."

The following day, members of the band performed at Coronation Park as they provided music for Port Glasgow Churches Together’s Easter Sunrise Service.

This week, several of the young musicians are travelling to Strathallan School in Perthshire to take part in the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland’s Easter residential course.
