A GREENOCK pub has been named a 'county winner' by a top awards body and is now set to compete for a national title.

Inverclyde's One Bruce Street Bar and Kitchen has been shortlisted as one of the best pubs in the south of Scotland by the National Pub and Bar Awards.

The venue is one of 94 county winners across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The pubs, which have been selected on overall best practice across several operational categories, will be officially crowned at a red carpet celebration in London on June 26.

Fifteen Regional Winners will be announced at the ceremony, as well as the esteemed accolade – the overall national pub and bar of the year.

One Bruce Street, which was known as Nicolson's under its previous owners, was taken over last year by local businessman Gary McDowell.

The pub underwent a major revamp before re-opening, with Gary and his team making a number of changes to give the building's interior a 'vintage' look.
