HOUSEBUILDING statistics which show that 500 homes were completed in Inverclyde during 2022/23 have been welcomed by the area’s MSP.

Figures from the Scottish Government show that the total supply of new houses in the country during the period reached 24,368, up 10 per cent from the year before.

Local MSP Stuart McMillan has welcomed the figures and says they show the SNP government is serious about tackling shortages – with a further £556m committed to an affordable housing programme in 2024/25.

He said: “Housing supply of family-sized homes is a key issue in Inverclyde, so it is essential we continue to increase the number of good affordable homes available in the market.

“Analysis shows that 24,368 homes were completed in 2022/23, including 500 in Inverclyde – a welcome figure that continues to increase year on year.

“The SNP government will continue to take action, including committing over £550 million to the affordable housing supply programme this year, to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to live in a safe and comfortable home.”
