A DRUG dealer has been put on jail alert by a sheriff after police discovered four kilos of cannabis worth up to £35,000 at his Port Glasgow home.

Paul MacLean admitted to a charge of being concerned in the supplying of the class B narcotic from a property on Westray Avenue in February last year when he appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty through solicitor Aidan Gallagher to the indictment offence but was cleared of three other allegations as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.

It was originally claimed that MacLean, along with former co-accused Emma Carson, was found in possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.

He was also charged with intentionally obstructing two police officers during a search and attempting to pervert the course of justice by making off in a bid to prevent being handcuffed.

Ms Carson, 27, was acquitted after the Crown accepted her not guilty pleas submitted by lawyer David Tod to the allegations.

The court heard that a Crown motion has been lodged to confiscate more than £16,000 worth of MacLean's ill-gotten gains under Proceeds of Crime Act legislation.

Four kilos of cannabis were found at his address last year, valued at between £30k and £35k, while various items were seized by officers, including mobile phones, money, scales and other drug paraphernalia.

MacLean, who has previous convictions, is due to be sentenced on May 31 when a confiscation hearing will also take place.

Sheriff James Varney told him: "You have pleaded guilty to the supply of a serious quantity of controlled drugs and that in normal circumstances would attract a custodial sentence."
