THOUSANDS of people flocked to Kilmacolm in amazing summer weather as a popular annual event returned.

Organisers estimate that around 5,000 people attended the 189th Kilmacolm and Port Glasgow Society Show at The Knapps on Saturday.

Families from all over Inverclyde and beyond made their way to the showfield in the beautiful sunshine to soak up all of the activities and events.

Kilmacolm and Port Glasgow councillor David Wilson said the show was 'one of the best ever'.

He added: "The weather was fantastic and there was a really good turnout of exhibitors and visitors. It had everything, and it was such a great day for it.

"There are around 4,500 people living in Kilmacolm village and it seemed like most of them were at the show! We had a lot of visitors from Port Glasgow as well, which was fantastic to see."

Councillor Wilson said the spectacle of the cattle and Clydesdale shows were highlights for him.

Meanwhile there were a lot of entries in the industrial tent and a great number of trade tents and club tents.

Councillor Wilson commended the committee for organising such a successful afternoon despite last minute changes to the area available at The Knapps.

Just six weeks before the event, organisers learned that a tree planting area was going to take away some space.

Councillor Wilson added: "Even with a smaller area, there was still an excellent light horse section and some cross country. Overall it was a lovely day with a real family atmosphere."

Show secretary Mandi Brown said the committee, including president Neil Wright, and horse secretary Giulia Canata, were delighted with the show's success.
