MINI Messis got a special visit from Morton mascot Cappie the Cat during a fun-filled football fundraiser.

Around 60 youngsters at Glenbrae Children’s Centre honed their shooting skills and practiced their passing as they participated in a football-focussed programme of activities.

The little ones had been taking part in 'Glenbrae Goals', a four-week programme centred around football and learning.

They also raised cash to fund the nursery’s upcoming summer and end of term events.

At the end of Cappie’s visit, the children were presented with medals by the mascot, who posed for pictures.

Glenbrae Children’s Centre head Craig Scott told the Telegraph the young ones had thoroughly enjoyed the programme.

He said: “This came from the children’s interests, they were talking about football and because the European Championships are coming up we decided we were going to do a wee football programme.

“From that we decided to do a sponsored event in May to raise money for our summer fun days and parties at the end of term.

“We thought it would be nice to bring in all the skills the children are practicing and learning.

“The kids are loving it, we’re not just looking at football we’re focussing on their health and wellbeing too and getting them outside as well.

“It’s helping their literacy and numeracy too.

“It’s been great to have Cappie along, he’s one of our favourite visitors here.

“All in all it’s just been a really fun and rewarding thing to do for everyone.”
