A GREENOCK man caught with an offensive weapon has been given a non-custodial sentence after a hearing was told he had been ‘frightened by the court experience’.

First offender Stuart Kincaid had a knuckleduster in the driver’s door pocket of his silver Mazda car after police stopped and searched the vehicle on Bridgend Road.

Kincaid, 29, admitted to having unlawful possession of the item on August 27, 2022 and had a not guilty plea accepted by the Crown to a further charge of carrying cannabis on the same day.

Defence solicitor Amy Spencer said Kincaid had ‘displayed appropriate levels of remorse’ for the offence.

Miss Spencer added: “Given his attitude towards this offence it would be surprising to see him back before the court again.

“He appears to have been frightened by the court experience.”

Sheriff Anthony McGeehan imposed a 16-week restriction of liberty order on Kincaid, of Fairrie Street, with night-time curfew conditions.
