THE case against a Greenock woman who was accused of carrying out two assaults in the town centre has been dropped.

Lesley McGartland, 57, had been charged with attempting to strike a woman on the head with her head, as well as allegedly seizing her by the hair to her injury on September 8, 2022.

She faced a second allegation of assaulting another woman by uttering threats of violence towards her, scratching her on the head and placing her fingers in her eyes to her injury.

Ms McGartland was due to stand trial at Greenock Sheriff Court but the Crown made a motion to adjourn as one of the complainers had not yet been cited as a witness.

The motion was successfully opposed by defence solicitor Edel McGinty, with Sheriff James Varney deserting the case simpliciter – meaning it cannot be re-raised.
