A WARRANT has been issued for the arrest of a Greenock man charged with an assault and robbery after he failed to attend a court hearing.

Shaun Scott, 26, was due to appear at a first diet hearing at Greenock Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

He is accused of punching a man on the head and seizing his bag to his injury at Birkmyre Park in Port Glasgow on September 13 last year.

The charge alleged he then robbed the man of a bank card and a mobile phone.

Scott, of Weir Street, faces further charges of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing, uttering threats and brandishing a hammer.

Defence solicitor Aidan Gallagher told the court that his client had been written to and informed of the court date at his Greenock address, but that had recently moved to Paisley.

Sheriff James Varney granted a warrant to apprehend Scott.
