A GREENOCK man accused of endangering an officer during a police search more than three years ago has had his case continued at the sheriff court.
According to Crown prosecutors, David Park had a knife concealed inside his sock under his foot when he was searched by a constable after being arrested and taken to the Rue End Street police office on April 5, 2021.
The 53-year-old is alleged to have culpably and recklessly failed to disclose that he was in possession of the weapon, to the danger of the male PC who carried out the search.
Park, of Wellington Street, faces a further indictment charge of having possession of the blade in a public place, namely Sir Michael Street, without reasonable excuse or lawful authority on the same date.
He is also accused of being in possession of the class C drug etizolam.
At the latest calling of the protracted proceedings at Greenock Sheriff Court earlier this week, solicitor Rhona Lynch confirmed her client was maintaining not guilty pleas to the alleged offences.
The lawyer called for a further pre-trial hearing to be scheduled, to discuss the admissibility of evidence gathered in the case.
Sheriff David Pender pencilled in the next hearing for four weeks' time.
He told the court: “What a waste of time. I don’t understand why an evidential hearing wasn’t fixed the last time this case called in July.”
Park is due to return to court next month.
