A PORT Glasgow man has appeared in court charged with stealing £9,000 from a man after he allegedly held a knife to his throat.

Derek King, 30, is accused of assaulting the complainer at an address on Belville Street on March 16.

Prosecutors say he, while acting with others, struggled violently with him and caused him to fall to the floor before placing a blade against his throat.

King then allegedly demanded a means of accessing the man’s bank account.

He also faces a separate charge of carrying out another assault in an incident on Auchenbothie Road in Port Glasgow on April 2.

King is accused of repeatedly punching and kicking a man on his face and body to his severe injury.

He appeared on petition in relation to both matters at a private hearing at Greenock Sheriff Court on Thursday afternoon, where he made no plea through defence solicitor Aidan Gallagher.

Sheriff James Varney granted King, of Teviot Road, bail and committed both cases for further examination.

A date for King’s return to court is yet to be confirmed.
