A POPULAR Port Glasgow restaurant is hoping to add a few more accolades to its growing list of honours at an upcoming industry award ceremony.
Curry Lounge is in the running for four prizes at this year’s SPICE awards, having won the title of Best Indian Takeaway in the west of Scotland last year.
The awards celebrate the best Indian and Asian cuisine across Scotland.
Sal Mohammed, who owns the Princes Street premises, said he was pleased to see his business in the running for more awards.
He added: “We’re up for the SPICE awards this year in the best family restaurant, best buffet restaurant, Scottish curry champion of the year and best chef categories.
“We’re really happy to be in four categories, there’s a lot of competition out there and we strive to offer the best food made with the best ingredients. Hopefully we can bring home some prizes.
“We won the SPICE awards for best takeaway last year and in 2022 we won at the Scottish Curry awards, so we’re bagging awards every year the way it’s going.
“That’s because of our hard work and the effort we’re putting into things here.”
Sal told the Telegraph that despite tough trading conditions for hospitality businesses, his eatery is continuing to attract plenty of regulars – and has even had a local celebrity sample their cuisine recently.
Sal said: “The community is lovely here, every day when we open the door we get so many people saying hi to us and we welcome in so many regulars.
“We’ve really become a part of the community and the family here.
“We even had Martin Compston order from us a couple of weeks ago, the delivery driver was really shocked to see him.
“It’s good to see him supporting local businesses and he’s always welcome if he wants to come in and have a meal.
“We’ve just renovated the restaurant six weeks ago and there’s been a great response to it, it’s looking amazing.
“We’re still trying to give back to the community when we can.
“We’re still offering a ten per cent discount for our customers who order through our website and a discount for emergency services staff. We’re doing a buffet now every day too which has been very popular.
“We’ll be doing a food bank drive again before Christmas this year, it’s a yearly thing we do and we always want to give back to the community.”
The awards take place in Glasgow on September 9.
