THE members of a Greenock indie rock band have spoken of their excitement - and their anxiety - as they tune up to play a 'statement' gig at a top Glasgow venue next month.
Black Dove will headline King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut on September 13, supported by And The Bandages and Redline.
It's the fulfilment of a goal the four-piece set themselves after the strains of the pandemic.
Vocalist Josh Cunningham, guitarist Connell Harrington, bassist Ross McManus and drummer Hamish McGowan formed the band in 2016 having met at Clydeview Academy.
The musicians have stuck together since but found that their work came to a ‘standstill’ following Covid.
Josh, 24, told the Tele: “Individually, we all had other stuff going on that took priority.
“We came to a bit of a crossroads, where we had to decide if that was it or if we were going to go for it.
“We all decided that we wanted to keep playing music together.
“The goal we set was to play King Tut’s and make it a big statement gig.
"We’re stressed but excited. It’s been a long time coming."
Family and friends will travel from all over Inverclyde to support the boys on their big night, with two buses running from Gourock.
Black Dove have today announced the release of their new EP, Broken Record, which features their latest single The Backroom, as well as two new songs.
Josh hopes he and his bandmates can deliver a ‘high energy set’ at King Tut’s which can be enjoyed by both new and long-standing fans.
He said: “This was one of the things we wanted to do when we came back.
“We didn’t want to play the same set people saw a few years ago. We wanted to keep it fresh.
“We’re really looking forward to playing the new songs and seeing how people respond to them.
“We have a lot of loyal fans, and they always create a great atmosphere.
“It’s always good for us to see new people coming along too, as well as catching up with others.”
Tickets for the Glasgow gig are on sale at ticketweb.uk.
The second Gourock bus, which will also pick up and drop off in Greenock and Port Glasgow, is down to its few last remaining seats.
Those interested in travelling on the bus are asked to contact Black Dove’s social media.
