A SHERIFF has warned a Port Glasgow man he faces a prison sentence if he fails to pay more than £200 back to a woman he 'pretended' to sell a mobile phone to online.
Charles Stewart placed an advert for an iPhone 12 on Facebook Marketplace from his Brookfield Road home in May 2022.
He induced a woman to transfer £205 to his bank account for the item and thereafter failed to send it.
Stewart appeared from custody at Greenock Sheriff Court, where he pleaded guilty to obtaining the money by fraud.
A fiscal depute told the court there had been no recovery of the amount sent to Stewart for the phone.
He was ordered to pay the money back before his next court appearance on October 4.
Sheriff Thomas Ward said: “By that time, I expect you to have paid the £205.
“If you haven’t, with your record, I expect you will be going to jail.”
