A MAN has admitted leaving a Port Glasgow pub-goer with a brain bleed from a savage attack with a bar stool.
Police turned up at the Caledonian Bar in Princes Street to discover pools of blood on the floor and Sean Grana standing topless behind the bar.
The 36-year-old pleaded guilty to two indictment charges at a pre-trial hearing at Greenock Sheriff Court this week.
He admitted conducted himself in a threatening or abusive manner at the Caledonian Bar on Princes Street on May 2 last year by throwing a glass and a chair, and brandishing bottles and a barstool.
He also admitted assaulting a man to his severe injury by striking him on the head with the barstool.
The court heard the two men had arrived at the pub together at around 11pm.
An argument developed, followed by a physical altercation which also involved other customers.
The court was told that Grana, of Erskine, removed his jacket before throwing a chair and lifting a bottle from the bar, which he brandished at a witness.
The victim attempted to intervene by pushing the witness away, with Grana then picking up and swinging a barstool.
The stool struck and injured the man to the head – despite him not being the ‘intended target’.
Police attended the bar and observed ‘an ongoing disturbance'.
A fiscal depute said: “The entire bar was in a state of disarray. Blood pools were also observed on the floor.

“The accused was topless behind the bar. He was very irate and pacing.
“He threatened police, stating he would assault them should they approach.
“He stated, ‘I have a gun in the back of my trousers’.
“Police drew tasers and instructed him to get on the ground.”
The court heard that the victim suffered a two-inch laceration to his face and required eight stitches.
He also sustained a fracture to his left cheek and a broken nose, as well as a minor bleed in his frontal lobe.
Grana’s defence solicitor, Amy Spencer, said: “He fully accepts the serious nature of the charges to which he has pleaded guilty.”
Sheriff Anthony McGeehan deferred Grana’s sentencing until November 5 to allow for the preparation of social work reports.
Three other men - Brandon Hunter, 24, William Donnachie, 22, and Aiden Rush, 23 - had also been charged with engaging in a stand-up fight at the Caledonian Bar on the same night, as well as with assaulting Grana by repeatedly punching him on the head and body.
But their pleas of not guilty were accepted by the Crown.
