Police Scotland has confirmed the arrest of a 53-year-old man in connection with an alleged attempted murder in Greenock's town centre at the weekend.
Officers were called to West Blackhall Street in the early hours of Saturday morning after a 21-year-old man was found seriously injured.
The young man was taken to hospital and was said to be in a serious condition.
In the latest update a Police Scotland spokesperson said today: "A 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an attempted murder in Greenock.
"Around 12.10am on Saturday, September, 28 officers were called to a report of a 21-year-old man found injured in the West Blackhall Street area.
"He was taken to hospital for treatment."
Police confirmed that enquiries are still ongoing.
The police force launched an appeal for information from the public following the incident in the early hours of Saturday morning.
West Blackhall Street remained closed off on Monday as officers appeared to continue to search the area for evidence.
Several businesses along both West Blackhall Street and Jamaica Street were forced to stay closed as result.
Although the roads were opened back up a police presence has remained in the area.
