AN INVERCLYDE charity has been awarded a grant of more than £150,000 to support an ‘innovative’ project celebrating the history of Morton Football Club.
Morton In The Community’s plans to showcase the social and cultural impact of the club have been backed by the National Lottery.
The ‘Mon eh Ton’ project will see virtual and augmented reality technology used to bring the Morton’s 150-year history to life for elderly care home residents in a bid to foster a sense of nostalgia and community pride.
It will feature also heritage training sessions run by professional researchers, the recruitment of volunteers to uncover and document stories from the club’s past, and a variety of intergenerational activities designed to bring younger and older supporters together.
The funding – worth a total of £156,878 - will support the hiring of a part-time co-ordinator to lead the project delivery.
MITC chief executive Brian McLaughlin said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to receive this support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
“Mon eh Ton is about more than just football – it’s about identity, memory, and connection. Morton Football Club has played a major role in the life of Inverclyde and its people, and this project gives us a chance to honour that legacy in exciting, meaningful ways.”
Mon eh Ton, which will run until June 2027, is part of wider celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of Morton FC.
