Man to face trial over Greenock and Dunoon 'police assaults'

A MAN is to stand trial next month charged with assaulting a police officer at stations in Greenock and Dunoon in the same day.

Mateusz Zalewski allegedly attempted to spit at a female constable at Dunoon police station on September 21, 2023.

Prosecutors claim he then kicked the same officer on the leg after being taken to the station in Greenock later that day.

The 34-year-old is further charged with behaving in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause a person to suffer fear or alarm during the course of a ferry journey to Gourock.

It is alleged he shouted, swore and acted aggressively towards police officers, and that he repeatedly spat while inside a cell van.

Zalewski, of Govan, maintained pleas of not guilty though his defence solicitor at Greenock Sheriff Court this week.

He is due to face trial at Greenock Sheriff Court on September 8.
