RETAILERS and businesses in town centres across Inverclyde have had face-to-face talks with Inverclyde's MP about the challenges they face.
Martin McCluskey met with many people during his street surgeries which started in Port Glasgow, before heading to Gourock, Greenock and then Kilmacolm.
He promises that the £20million investment in Greenock, as part of the formerly named levelling up fund, will be a springboard for major regeneration and local people will start to see a real difference.
During the summer he also heard about concerns around the rising costs for businesses and the reduction in the spending power of the public.
But he says that he will now use the wide ranging feedback to deliver for town centres which he says is at the heart of the local economy.
Mr McCluskey said: "I have met many different businesses in the town centre and it has been very well received. We are aware of the difficulties facing retailers in the high street.
"We know the strengths of the high street and how crucial they are to our local economy. The cost of living crisis has hit hard.
"I believe the Labour Government is delivering for businesses but there is always more that we can do.
"Our high streets are all very different, from Gourock with the independent shops.
"One of the biggest concerns I heard time and time again is the need for business rate reform. This is something that the Scottish Government needs to deliver on."
He pointed to the major regeneration work, which includes the partial demolition of the Oak Mall, is proof that they are delivering.
In recent times town centre retailers have raised issues to the Tele that includes the rise in National Insurance and other factors.
During the summer Mr McCluskey spoke to them directly inviting retailers to have their say.
During a visit to Princes Street he also spoke to Provost Drew McKenzie at his butchers.
On a visit to Gourock he visited the successful charity shop the Ardgowan Hospice's book shop.
He went on to strengthen ties with small businesses and listening directly to the concerns of local traders across the constituency.
