A GREENOCK cinema will host a screening of a French film for its 25th anniversary.

As part of the Escapes initiative, which is supported by the British Film Institute, The Waterfront Cinema in Greenock will show Amélie on Monday, March 9 at 7.30pm.

The initiative looks to host free screenings at over 100 independent cinemas a month to make film more accessible.

This includes the screening of Amélie on March 9 and 10 to mark its landmark anniversary.

Beloved French film Amélie was first released in 2001 and became a break-out global phenomenon, defying all expectations for a French-language romantic comedy to become an international box office hit.

Amélie follows the story of Amélie Poulain, a shy and quirky waitress who decides to change the lives of those around her for the better while dealing with her own isolation.
