RIVER Clyde Homes are warning that Broomhill residents could face significant disruption to their heating and hot water supply unless they allow them urgent access for meter upgrades.

The social housing landlord, which runs the district heating system in the area, says there are up to 40 households in the area who still need to have new prepayment meters installed.

An upgrade for the 500 homes in Broomhill, as well as other Greenock areas including Cartsdyke Court and Eastern View, was announced in February by RCH alongside providers Switch2.

But from today (June 18) tenants and residents who have not had the work carried out could end up with their meter top-up cards and keys no longer working.

A River Clyde Homes spokesperson said:  “We strongly urge any residents who have missed an appointment for this work to take action and book another as soon as possible.

"This upgrade is critical to ensuring continued access to heating and hot water, and we want to avoid any unnecessary disruption to our customers.”

River Clyde Homes also said that they have had a number of missed appointments while trying to carry out the work.

The housing association says that customers who have not upgraded could face energy supply interruptions and households could be left without heating and hot water until the upgrade is completed.

Under the plans announced in February, RCH began an extensive upgrade of meters conducted by Switch2 across all their district heating networks to allow for precise readings and greater reliability.

This followed the appointment of new contractors AMP Clean Energy to oversee the fuel supply, operation and maintenance of all the sites.

Earlier this year Ofgem was appointed as a regulator for district heating systems by the UK Government with formal advice and support services now in place.
