Jayden Gorman on Morton Premier Sports Cup tie reaction

It looked for all the world that Brophy was set to break the deadlock in the 32nd minute, only for his goal-bound effort to strike the back of the Aussie before drifting away to safety.

That moment proved even more costly after the Lowland League side claimed victory courtesy of Calum Rae’s second-half goal.

Despite the setback, Gorman felt he and strike partner Brophy are slowly building a partnership, stressing that their understanding will become stronger with each game.

“I’m very disappointed. The boys worked hard, but there’s a lot we still need to improve on,” Gorman told the Tele.

“It was difficult for me because I had the momentum at the time and was running across, but obviously that comes with building a connection with the players and understanding where we need to be.

“I’m hoping I can improve on that next time. There’s a lot I can learn from Eamonn. Obviously, he’s played for Scotland and he’s a great player, so there’s plenty I want to keep improving on.

“Hopefully the team can do the same and keep improving going into next week.”

Tuesday brings a quick opportunity for the Cappielow side to bounce back when they travel to face East Fife.

The Ton know they need a positive result to keep alive their hopes of progressing, and Gorman is aware there is plenty of work ahead.

However, the striker remains confident in the ability within the squad.

“There’s just a lot we need to improve on at the moment,” he added.

“It’s only our second game, so we keep building and hopefully we can get the three points at East Fife.

“It’s a game that will show the attitude from the club and from the boys.”
