A TALENTED Greenock man who balances two jobs and a musical career with a passion for art recently returned to Gourock to show off his work.

He told the Tele he loves exhibiting his work in Gourock and said McGilp’s is a great space.

Callum added: “Gourock is a really nice area and the shop is a lovely place to show off your work.

“There are a lot of artists and makers in the area and there's a fantastic, supportive network of people around you."

Callum completed a course at Glasgow School of Art to build up his portfolio in 2017 and has been creating art semi-professionally for around six years.

He uses coloured pencils, acrylics, oils, embroidery, and coloured paper, and enjoys adding a lot of texture to his work.

His exhibition at McGilp’s was full of colour and imagination.

Callum works part-time in Tesco, is a classroom assistant, and is in a band called Careo.

He said he would find it very difficult to live a life without his art and his music.

Callum added: “I really enjoy the creative side of things and I really want to have that in my life.

“I would find it really difficult to not pursue art and music. I couldn’t do without them.

“I have that compulsion to make stuff and I want it to be out there.”

The talented artist said he had great feedback from everyone who popped in to take a look at the exhibition.

Callum added: “Everyone comments on how original it is, and how colourful and eye-catching the paintings and drawings are.

“I always knew I wanted to create using a lot of colour.”

The hardworking Greenock man hopes to return to the pop-up shop again next year.

He said that creating allows him to ‘just let go and let it happen’.

Callum added: “It’s just something that I love to do.

“It’s nice to have something that I can just sit down and do, and let my imagination take over."
