LOCAL firefighters lifted the lid on life in the emergency services and raised money for charity in a fun and informative event in Greenock.
The team at the town's fire station hosted an open day on August 15 and welcomed people from all ages to the vital community facility.
Visitors to the station got the chance to see emergency services appliances up-close and found out more about the different types of equipment used in a series of demonstrations.
Alongside local firefighters, representatives from HM Coastguard, the Police Scotland marine unit, and the Scottish Ambulance Service were on-hand to answer questions and help people learn more about their jobs.
Youngsters tried out sitting in the front seat in some of the appliances, got the chance to try out fire kit and equipment, and fire safety information was available for everyone.
Food was provided by Purdie’s Pantry and Tonino’s, and Greenock and District Scouts served up burgers and hotdogs.
All of the money gathered on the day through donations and raffles will go to Ardgowan Hospice.
Scott Martin, watch commander for green watch at Greenock fire station, said the event was a great success.
He added: "It was a fantastic day and it was really busy.
"The weather held out for us as well.
"It was a great success and we’re hoping to have a least one a year going forward."
Scott and the team at the station thanked everyone for their support on the day, and for taking time out to raise money for Ardgowan Hospice.
He added: “It’s important for us to engage with the community and to let them see what capabilities we have in our day-to-day duties.
“The local community always seem to rally round when there are events like this and that’s great to see."
