CALMAC has welcomed its latest fleet of seafarers after a group of modern apprentices graduated from the Gourock-based operators training programme.
The 14-strong cohort, comprising seven deck rating trainees and seven engine rating trainees, began their course in September 2024 and have now moved into permanent positions on the ferry network.
Including the latest group of graduates, a total of 138 former apprentices are now employed by CalMac – representing almost 80 per cent of those who have completed the programme.
The apprentices completed a structured training programme, combining classroom learning with practical sea-going experience.
This included participation in academic phases at the City of Glasgow College, as well as placement on CalMac vessels.
Diana Burke, chief operating officer at CalMac, said: “Congratulations to all 14 graduates on this fantastic achievement, we are delighted to welcome them into permanent roles across our fleet.
“Their success highlights the importance of investing in the next generation of seafarers and demonstrates the opportunities available through maritime careers.
“These new graduates are now making a valuable contribution to the communities we serve, and I wish them every success as they continue their careers with CalMac."
