A PORTRAIT painting masterclass led by Glasgow-based artist Josh Thomson will take place in Greenock at RIG Studios, Old West Kirk, on October 18 from 11am to 3pm.

Josh, known for his appearance on Sky Arts' Portrait Artist of the Year, has been shortlisted for the Scottish Portrait Awards and the Ruth Borchard Self Portrait Prize.

The workshop will focus on painting a head-and-shoulders portrait in oils from life, using a live model.

Attendees will learn about light and shadow, colour and tone, form and atmosphere, and how to build portraits using simple shapes and tonal relationships.

The model will be dramatically lit against a dark backdrop using a single light source, allowing participants to study how light interacts with form and texture.

The class is open to both beginners and those with some experience in portrait or oil painting who wish to improve their skills.

Tickets cost £70 per person and can be purchased online. Participants must be aged 18 or over.
