TRAINS in and out of Inverclyde are OFF for the rest of Friday, ScotRail has confirmed.

The company announced at around lunchtime that there will be no services on the Gourock and Wemyss Bay lines today.

Trains between Largs and Glasgow Central are also cancelled.

ScotRail carried out a trial run between Port Glasgow and Gourock on Friday morning but the line has been deemed unsafe for the public to travel on.

In a statement, the train operator said: "Current advice to all customers: do not travel.

"The Met Office's weather warning is now yellow.

"But there remains a lot of snow around and drifting snow in some areas.

"Lines need to be tested to check if they are safe.

"We will aim to reintroduce services on a limited number of routes if it is safe to do so."

The situation is similar right across Scotland with a very small number of reduced services in operation.

Rail travel throughout the UK as a whole has been disrupted by the unprecedented snow storms over the last few days.

In Inverclyde, McGill's have resumed a number of bus services while the ferries remain suspended, pending a review on Friday afternoon.
