A woman has died and two people are seriously injured following a crash on country road.

The 45-year-old woman was driving west in a Vauxhall Meriva when it was involved in a collision with an eastbound Volkswagen Tiguan on the A818 at Daligan, east of Helensburgh, at around 9.10am on Monday.

Police said the driver of the Vauxhall Meriva died at the scene.

The 71-year-old man driving the Volkswagen Tiguan, and his passenger, a 70-year-old woman, were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where medical staff described their condition as serious but stable.

Police are appealing for information about the crash.

Sergeant Paul MacPherson said: “Although a number of people stopped to assist at the time, I am still keen to hear from anyone who may have either witnessed the crash or indeed who saw the cars on the road prior to it happening.

“If you have any information that you think may assist our inquiries, then please contact Dumbarton Road Policing Unit via 101.

“Please quote incident number 0718 Monday 8 October 2018.”

The road was closed for several hours after the crash and reopened at around 2.40pm.
