The body of a 32-year-old man has been found in woodland just four miles away from an ongoing murder investigation of missing man.
Emergency services were called to a discovery of the suspected murder victim in woodland in St Mellons, Cardiff, at 7.13am on Thursday morning.
The murder investigation is the second launched by police in just two days following the arrest of a 26-year-old man on Tuesday on suspicion of murder just four miles away in the suburb of Llanedeyrn.
A police spokeswoman said officers currently have no reason to believe either of the suspected murders are linked.
Police have set up an incident room at their Cardiff Central Police station following the latest discovery, and are conducting forensic examinations of the woodland.
Superintendent Jo Maal, head of operations in Cardiff, said on Thursday evening: “We appreciate having two murder investigations in such close proximity might be a concern particularly for communities in the east of Cardiff.
“We would like to reassure the public that detectives are working hard to establish the circumstances leading to today’s incident and extra patrols by our neighbourhood teams are continuing to reassure the public.”
On Tuesday, police arrested the unnamed 26-year-old man in connection with the disappearance of Algerian national Mohamed Megherbi, who has not been seen for a month.
Despite extensive enquiries, Mr Megherbi, who has strong links to north-west London, has not been found, with a police statement saying they have found “no proof of life.”
A property in Pennsylvania, Llanedeyrn has been forensically examined by police as part of the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information of either incidents is asked to contact South Wales Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
