INVERKIP Primary's record breaking athletics team have made it ten titles in a row after another glory day.

The current crop recently brought home the Inverclyde Sportshall championship to make it a decade of domination.

Then they clinched the West of Scotland title for the fifth time - which is more than any other school.

Proud teacher and coach Paul Giffney said: "I have to say this is the best team yet.

"They are brilliant and it is all down to them.

"From the moment training begins in November they train every break time, every lunch time and after school.

"We have some of the best runners and long jumpers we've ever had and our captain Ami is the fastest girl we have ever had at the school."

Inverkip Primary has won the Inverclyde indoor athletic competition for the last 10 years, and 13 times in total.

The winners represent Inverclyde at the West of Scotland Sportshall championship.

This has been run for the last nine years, with Inverkip taking the title five times, including the last three years in a row.

Paul added: "Winning the Inverclyde title is incredible but to take the West of Scotland for the last three years really is a big one."

Captains Ami McKechnie and Lewis Hanley have been part of the team for the last three years, along with Leah Gardner, Zoe McFadden and Jade Jackson, who has now left the school.

Together they clocked up a 100 per cent record by winning every Inverclyde and West of Scotland championship they took part in.

Ami said: "It is a wee bit scary because you don't want to be the team who loses!

"The first year was great but to win for the third time was amazing.

"We practised really hard but it has been worth it."
