TOMORROW is ‘results day’ for pupils across Inverclyde and Scotland and naturally they will be anxiously awaiting that envelope or text message.

In an ideal world, everyone would receive the results they’re hoping for, but that’s not always how life goes.

It’s not the be-all and end-all though – and Skills Development Scotland’s Results Helpline can offer information, advice and guidance to Scotland’s young people and their parents and carers.

The SDS Results Helpline number is 0808 100 8000 and goes live tomorrow. It will be open 8am-8pm (Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 August) and 9am-5pm (Thursday 10 and Friday 11 August).

I’d encourage pupils to consider using this service as there are always more options out there to help you achieve your goals than you might think.

On the same topic of education, I met with Raymond Porter from MCR Pathways last week to learn more about the programme.

Between Inverclyde Academy and Notre Dame High School, 51 young people have been paired with a mentor who meets with them weekly.

The vision of MCR Pathways is for all young people to experience equality of education outcomes, career opportunities and life chances.

This school-based mentoring programme supports young people to find, grow and use their talents.

I am told it is growing rapidly in Inverclyde and reaping huge benefits for our young people involved; building their confidence, broadening their horizons and helping them explore positive post-school destinations.

If you can spare one hour per week to be a mentor to a young people in Inverclyde, please have a look at their website and consider signing up: MCR Pathways - Nationwide Mentoring Programme.
